Program Aims To Increase Representation Of Black Male Teachers In Chicago Public Schools

“Our boys in the city need to see men of color who embrace teaching as a profession," says Alfred Tatum, University of Illinois at Chicago Dean of College of Education.

The institution is participating in a program dubbed Call Me MISTER which is designed to empower college students of color to explore careers in education and put them on track to become elementary school teachers in areas where schools lack diversity amongst their staff, the news outlet writes. The program has been in existence for 18 years and has been introduced to over 30 schools across the country, the news outlet writes. UIC is the largest urban school to participate in the project. As part of the program, participants receive free room and board and their tuition is covered.

There is a major need to increase racial representation in Chicago schools. According to the news outlet, 84 percent of students within the city’s public schools are Black and Latino but 42.7 percent of its educators are people of color. Many program participants say that they were inspired to join Call Me MISTER due to their own educational experiences and the lack of diversity that they witnessed among teachers while in grade school.

I don't remember having a black teacher until I got to college and I know for sure I've never had a male black teacher. This is an excellent program with a good incentive for those that make the choice to go through with it. Our kids need to see more people like themselves in teaching positions, especially men. This program should be offered in every state.

Trump Is Outraged That The First Amendment Isn’t Being Taken Away From NFL Players

“The NFL and NFLPA, through recent discussions, have been working on a resolution to the anthem issue. In order to allow this constructive dialogue to continue, we have come to a standstill agreement on the NFLPA’s grievance and on the NFL’s anthem policy. No new rules relating to the anthem will be issued or enforced for the next several weeks while these confidential discussions are ongoing.”
Reportedly, the NFL decided to suspended the suspension after several players from Miami Dolphins staged their own protests. Receiver Kenny Stills took a knee with a hand on his heart during the anthem last season, defensive tackle Jordan Phillips put his arm around Stills before one game, and safety Michael Thomas and tight end Julius Thomas left the team after their kneeling protests.

Well, Trump is pissed.
America’s biggest bully wrote, “The NFL National Anthem Debate is alive and well again – can’t believe it! Isn’t it in contract that players must stand at attention, hand on heart? The $40,000,000 Commissioner must now make a stand. First time kneeling, out for game. Second time kneeling, out for season/no pay!”

This cause was always bigger than one man and it's about time the players in the NFL came together and took a stand or a knee together. No football no money and we all know nothing means more to those at the top than money. The sad part about all this is while the protest and the negotiations were/are going on black men and women were/are still being killed by the police. Don't loose sight of what its all about.... PLEASE

Black Man Fired from Home Depot for reacting to 'racist' customer

By Erin B. Logan July 23 at 12:33 PMAfter a man approached the checkout at a Home Depot in Albany, N.Y., two weeks ago, staff member Maurice Rucker asked him to leash his dog. The man exploded.
Rucker, a 60-year-old black man, garnered attention over the weekend after being fired from Home Depot for his encounter with an irate customer who hurled racist expletives at him, he said.
Home Depot told The Washington Post it initially fired Rucker for failing to “disengage and alert management about a customer confrontation,” spokesman Matthew Harrigan wrote in an email. But by Friday, the company backtracked, telling The Post it rescinded the termination and would give Rucker back pay.
But Rucker, who worked for the company for 10 years, on Monday told The Post he has no plans to return.
Home Depot’s decision “has nothing to do with me,” Rucker said in an interview. “It has to do with the media reaction to them firing me. . . . The fact they can fire me after 10 years for reacting to someone who is racist is insane.”

I applaud Mr. Rucker for not accepting his job back, he calls it insane the way they reacted to the whole ordeal, I call it an insult. But what do you really expect from these corporations. Their loyalty is to the almighty dollar. I will say this... that it could have turned out differently if it had been another not so civil black man.

By Cedric Butler, certified business credit specialist

Here are the top ten myths and misconceptions that many Black entrepreneurs have regarding business credit:

#1 – Many people think that if they have bad personal credit, that automatically disqualifies them to obtain a line of business credit.
#2 – Many people don’t realize that you don’t need to use your social security number when applying for business credit. You can actually use your business tax ID also known as the Employer Identification Number (EIN) or your DUNS number.
#3 – Most African Americans don’t believe that getting business credit is even possible for them… but it is! Many African American entrepreneurs have access to more than $50,000 in business credit.
#4 – Many believe that it will negatively affect their personal credit or that they need good personal credit to get business credit… but neither of these are true!
#5 – A lot of people think that you can establish business credit within one day, but it really takes six to nine months.
#6 – Many don’t realize that initially you will be given access to a small amount of business credit, but to extend that amount, you have to actively use the credit.
#7 – Many people don’t realize that having business credit brings more leverage to the table if ever you decided to pitch to angel investors and/or venture capitalists.
#8 – Many don’t realize that to be eligble for business credit, you do have to have have an active business registered with the state (DBA, LLC, or Corporation).
#9 – Many people don’t realize that having business credit can be a protection for your company when there are cash flow issues or an emergency of any kind.
#10 – Many people who do have business credit don’t realize that it’s very important to regularly check your business credit report for errors, and also maintain a good credit score. (Even you don’t yet have business credit, you should still regularly check your report for potential inaccuracies!)
